July 1st, 2010Chase Freedom Credit Card Offers $100 Sign Up Bonus
The Chase Freedom Visa is now offering a $100 cashback bonus to new customers. In order to qualify for this bonus, new customers must simply spend $799 on the Freedom card during the first three months of cardmembership. Once the $799 spending requirement is met, the $100 cashback bonus is awarded in 8 to 10 weeks.
This particular Chase credit card offer provides one of the more lucrative cash back sign up incentives presently on the market. Discover currently offers a version of its More Card that comes with a $50 cash back bonus. Similarly, Citibank has a few credit cards that offer sign up reward bonuses ranging from $30 to $50.
Bonus cash back rewards like those offered with the Chase Freedom credit card and other competitors aren’t new. However, the Chase Freedom deal is particularly generous as it amounts to a 12.5% cash back return on the required $799 of spending. Historically, special cash back deals are usually no more than $50.
Apart from the initial $100 bonus, the Freedom card is essentially a straight 1% cashback credit card with rotating categories that offer 5% cashback. This cash back structure is similar to that used by Discover, which offers 5% cash back rewards in categories that change every three months.
Another interesting feature of the Chase Freedom card is that it offers an extra 1% cashback when you book airfare through their online booking system. Aside from this, the rewards program is pretty standard.
One drawback for some consumers may be the fact that this card does not offer a 0% APR on balance transfers or purchases. A number of other Chase credit cards do offer this feature, including the standard version of the Chase Freedom card, which offers a 0% APR on balance transfers for 6 or 12 months, but does not offer the $100 cashback deal.
Overall, the Chase Freedom card is a pretty solid card with a decent rewards program and competitive interest rate structure. When you factor in the $100 promotional bonus, this card proves to be good for people who like freebies as well as people who want a no annual fee cashback card.
