The customer these days needs to be very careful if he receives an email from his bank or the income tax department seeking personal data or information. The cyber mafia have increased their nuisance in multiplier in the recent times.

They fake bank portals including the RBI portal and several Government departments.

A study conducted by internet security organization, Symantec has revealed that the rate of phishing scams has increased by 35% in the month of March alone.

The report reveals a phishing website created in the name of RBI in the month of March. The webpage although has differences from the original RBI site but if the visitor is not vigilant enough he might fall into the trap.

The cyber mafia use a single webpage for various banks and government departments. They just change the logo of the bank and some key words to fake the identity.

The Income tax department had recently come up with warning bell against phishing e mails.

There is always a URL attached with the phishing mail. Once the user clicks on the URL the fake website would open. These and several other tacts are used by these scammers.

“The information provided by unsuspecting users could be used to siphon off money from their bank accounts. Their personal information might be used by cyber criminals to create fake registrations, fake ids and other illegal purposes,” a senior IT professional working with an internet firm said.

But some sincerity and vigil from the part of the customer can definitely help control these scams. Some steps taken by the customer in this regard can work out this problem.
